Windows XP Theme : ChaNinja Style RC 1.5


CHANGES

1) Fixed a couple of bugs.
2) A few changes to the appearance of the theme.
3) Improved the cursors (read below on how to install).




ADDITIONS

1) I've started customizing the shell32.dll file to better suit the theme and I'd really like you to check out the progress...its worthit and completely reversible! The following are the change so far...

A) New animations for Moving and Copying files
B) New deleting to recycle bin and "Empty Recycle Bin" animations
***The Recycle Bin animations maybe a bit too slow to see properly depending on speed of your HDD***

C) Changed background of Windows flag animation at top-right of Explorer and IE

*** Read Instructions on how to install this below ***
*** This has only been tested successfully using Windows XP Professional ***

2) A new wallpaper (this is not my work, I've just adapted one from [link])
3) Recycle Bin Icons (adapted from those in Carbon Icon Scheme...don't know their origin)
4) Two screensavers (read below on how to install these) - The "ChaNinja" one is by Whackboy, the "Particle Fire" screensaver is by Seumas McNally from [link]





THEME INSTALLATION

1) Unzip "ChaNinja.theme" file and the entire "ChaNinja" folder to your %Windir%ResourcesThemes folder.

If you're not sure where your Windows is installed, go to Command Prompt and enter;
"echo %Windir%ResourcesThemes" to get folder name.

2) If you haven't done so already, then download and run latest StyleXP from Tgtsoft website.

3) Unzip and install the font BAPHOMET.TTF (drag and drop into "Fonts" folder found in %Windir%Fonts folder or via Control Panel [switch to classic view])

4) Select 'ChaNinja' from the Themes tab in Display Properties.

6) Press Apply




SHELL32.DLL PATCH INSTALLATION

1) Copy "Shell32_Patch.exe" from %Windir%ResourcesThemesChaNinjaShell 32 Patch folder to %windir%system32 folder.

2) Double-Click "Shell32_Patch.exe"
***There will probably be a large pause before the Patcher window pops up...be patient and Double click only once***

3) Click "Start" to execute the patch

4) You should get 2 "Windows File Protection" message boxes (twice each)...

The first "Windows File Protection" message box will ask you to insert your XP CD
- click "Cancel"

The next one will ask for confirmation to keep the "unrecognized file versions"
- click Yes.

*** Don't worry, it won't affect the stability of your PC ***


5) Reboot


***To test out the animations try copying and moving a few large files***


SHELL32.DLL RESTORATION

To undo the above process repeat the same 5 steps above using "Shell32_Restore.exe" this time.





CURSORS INSTALLATION

1) Goto %Windir%ResourcesThemesChaNinjaCurso rs folder

2) Right-Click on "ChaNinja.inf" file and click "Install" from context menu.

3) Goto Control Panel and select "Mouse" (accessible via "Printers and Other Hardware" if in Category View).

4) Click on "Pointers" tab and select the "ChaNinja" Scheme.

5) Apply.

*** If you preferred any of the previous cursors then you can manually set the individual cursors using "Browse" from Control Panel > Mouse > Pointers tab



SCREENSAVERS INSTALLATION

*** You need to have at least DivX codec 4 to run the "ChaNinja" Screensaver***
*** Download from www.divx.com ***

1) Copy everything from %Windir%ResourcesThemesChaNinjaScree nsavers to your %Windir%System32 folder

2) Both "ChaNinja" and "Particle Fire" screensavers should appear in the list on the "Screen Saver" tab in Display Properties.

3) Select the one you want and click Apply


*** Alternatively you can right-click the .scr files in %Windir%ResourcesThemesChaNinjaScree nsavers and click "Install" from the context menu.

*** If you use "Particle Fire" goto its settings and make sure the Fire Color is set to "Velvet Blue" to match the theme.






KNOWN BUGS AND FIXES


1) Some of the cursors may not work properly (e.g. Link Cursor), to ensure that all the correct ones for the theme are used, please follow the instructions given above.

2) When you move the mouse over "All Programs" in the startpanel, the background fill color overlaps the curved shaded bit. Below is the method I use to "cover up" this bug so that its not noticeable (it works).

A) Double-Click the "OverlapFix.reg" file in the %Windir%ResourcesThemesChaNinja folder
B) Click "Yes"
C) Reboot.

** All it does is speed up the menu. **

3) Some issues if you reduce Active Titlebar size,
- Quicklaunch buttons and minimize/maximize/restore/close buttons look bad. - avoid!
- If you tried resizing and then set it back to 25 it may still look bad - re-apply theme!

4) Corporate users that need to logon to a domain (can't use UserPics) will have a messed up Startpanel
- Apply the "Corporate" color scheme from Display Properties ('Appearance' tab).

5) Some characters (e.g. french accented letters) appear as a square in the startbutton
- Only way to fix it is to edit the Baphomet.ttf font file and add the letters to it.
- I don't know how to do this yet but if anyone can give it a go I'd be greatful.

6) The song titlebar using Audio Player toolbar of PowerToys looks messed up.
- Tough one, still working on it.

7) Extra Large fonts have not yet been implemented properly.





ADDITIONAL NOTES

I) The theme looks better using UserPic-1.bmp or UserPic-2.bmp as the user's ID Picture from %Windir%ResourcesThemesChaNinja folder

II) Five wallpapers are included in the Zip file.
